November sales of new motor vehicles fell 9.3 percent from a year earlier to 311,015 units, the Japan Automobile Dealers Association said Monday. It was the third straight monthly fall.
Sales of passenger cars fell 5.5 percent to 236,908 units, with sales of cars with engines bigger than 2,000cc down 13.9 percent to 57,890 and sales of smaller cars down 2.4 percent to 179,018.
The figures exclude minivehicles, with engines of up to 660cc, and specialty vehicles such as trailers.
