KYOTO -- An ethics committee of Kyoto University's Faculty of Medicine has approved an application by a team led by one of its professors to import human embryonic stem cells to use in creating blood vessels.
Kazuwa Nakao and his team will submit a similar application to the central government by the end of the year at the earliest and begin importing the cells and launching the research project as soon as approval is received, team members said Thursday.
Stem cells can be used to clone any kind of human organ or tissue and are considered the key to regenerative medicine.
