Defense Agency chief Gen Nakatani said Tuesday it is impossible to order the Self-Defense Forces to clear mines in Afghanistan because the country is still in the midst of war and the SDF lacks the necessary resources.
"It is impossible (to dispatch the SDF for mine removal) as a truce has not been established," Nakatani told the House of Representatives Security Committee. "Besides, the SDF does not have a special unit to remove land mines."
