A tracking device in a stolen bag of jewelry worth an estimated 100 million yen led to the arrest Tuesday of two men who allegedly took the bag earlier in the day on a bullet train at Tokyo Station, police said.

Police said they tracked down and arrested the men at JR Asagaya Station in Suginami Ward, Tokyo, and recovered the jewelry.

The suspects allegedly stole the bag and another bag containing personal effects around 10:35 a.m. after the owner left the train to buy a drink before the train departed for Okayama, police said.

The owner of the bags, a 35-year-old man employed at a jewelry store in Kofu, Yamanashi Prefecture, reported the theft around 10:40 a.m.

The suspects fled by taxi from Tokyo Station and headed to Asagaya Station, police said.

The two were not immediately identified but told police they are from Colombia and Mexico.

The manager of the jewelry store told police the tracking device was installed three months ago as a safety measure.
