Rikkyo University in Tokyo will inherit the home and nearly 20,000 books left by the late mystery writer Rampo Edogawa (1894-1965) from Ryutaro Hirai, his eldest son and a professor emeritus at the private university.
The university in Toshima Ward will purchase some 1,200 sq. meters of land near the school as well as about 400 valuable contemporary Japanese books, while Hirai, 80, will donate more than 19,600 books and the buildings, university officials said.
The university will manage the home and books as cultural heritage items, and will release details about them via the Internet, they said.
