One of 19 war-displaced Japanese from China searching for relatives in Japan was confirmed Tuesday to be the sister of a Nagano Prefecture man after meeting him in Tokyo.

Xuan Guilan, 64, became the second in the group to locate a relative following confirmation on Nov. 14 that Wei Qingling, 59, is the nephew of a man in Chiba Prefecture.

Xuan's description of her family background, including her father's job as a carpenter, matched that of her brother in a meeting at the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, officials said. They refused to give the man's name.

Her mother handed Xuan and her younger sister over to separate Chinese families after their father was killed in August 1945.

According to the officials, Xuan is the fourth person to have held a meeting with potential relatives following Wei and two others, who arrived in Tokyo on Nov. 11.

Zhu Guiqin, estimated to be 63, and Chen Jingyun, about 58, were still waiting Tuesday for the results of DNA tests to confirm kinship with possible relatives.

Xuan and the rest of the group arrived Nov. 14.

The 19 are among Japanese left behind by their families in China in the closing days of World War II. The government has been inviting them to Japan to look for relatives since March 1981.
