The fishing dispute involving Japan, Russia and South Korea may be settled this month following a reported offer by Moscow to grant Seoul new fishing rights in waters not claimed by Tokyo.
Sources familiar with the matter said Tuesday that Russia has offered to sell South Korea the rights to 15,000 tons of saury in waters off the Littoral Province of Siberia next year.
Russian and South Korean negotiators will meet around Nov. 22, probably in Moscow, to discuss the offer, and a final agreement may be reached at that time, the sources said.
