Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co. dominated the list of best-selling vehicles on the domestic market in October, with Toyota's Corolla model taking the top spot for the 14th straight month, the Japan Automobile Dealers Association said Tuesday.
Toyota accounted for seven of the top 10 sellers on the list, while Honda accounted for the other three.
Toyota sold 18,934 Corollas in the month, up 0.2 percent from a year earlier. This edged Honda's Fit model, which was released in June, with 16,203 units having been sold in October.
The Vitz compact, produced by Toyota, was ranked third, with 10,174 units sold, down 14 percent. This was followed by Toyota's Estima minivan in fourth with 9,929 units, down 4.2 percent.
In fifth place was Honda's STEP WGN minivan, logging sales of 7,318 units, up 15.8 percent from a year earlier.
Toyota's Crown sedan was sixth with 7,079 vehicles sold, down 17.9 percent, while its Ipsum minivan came in seventh with 6,401, up 185.1 percent.
Honda's Stream minivan, which debuted in October last year, was ranked eighth with sales of 5,984 units, up 164.9 percent.
Toyota's FunCargo took ninth with 5,718 units sold, down 30.5 percent, and its Mark II was 10th with 5,213 units sold, up 15.6 percent.
