Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi on Thursday reacted positively to Pakistan's request to reschedule its debts to Tokyo, and Finance Ministry officials later indicated that Japan will discuss the matter with other creditors to Pakistan.
During talks with Pakistani Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz, Koizumi hinted at Tokyo's readiness to accept the debt rescheduling request from Pakistan, which had earlier sought total cancellation of its $5 billion in debts.
Shaukat was in Tokyo as a special envoy of Pakistani President Gen. Pervez Musharraf.
