Tax revenue in September fell 5.8 percent from a year earlier to 2.31 trillion yen, the Finance Ministry said Thursday.
This decline, the first since the start of fiscal 2001 in April, was due partly to declining corporate tax receipts, the ministry said.
The figures reaffirm the nation's severe revenue situation, which has worsened due to the ongoing economic deterioration.
