Diet debate on allowing the Self-Defense Forces to provide logistic support to U.S.-led retaliation against the Sept. 11 attacks has highlighted unanswered questions on the constitutionality of the planned move.
With Monday's enactment of a law allowing such SDF support, the government will accelerate work to draw up a basic plan for deploying the military.
The Defense Agency plans to have officials of the three SDF branches and representatives of the Joint Staff Council join lawmakers from the ruling coalition on a trip Thursday to Pakistan and to observe the expected sites of SDF operations.
