Major textile maker Teijin Ltd. said Monday it has begun a feasibility study with the Enron group of the United States to improve the output of Teijin's private power generator and sell the excess to other corporate users.
The company is considering whether to expand the power generator at its Matsuyama plant in Ehime Prefecture to make it a coal-fired power plant with an output of about 70,000 kilowatts.
The company said it generates enough power at the plant to cover its production of polyester and other textiles. However, since shifting textile production overseas and reducing output at domestic plants, the generator is now producing surplus power.
