Ltd. has announced it will market a metal-free brassiere in December because tiny metallic bra fasteners have been setting off metal detectors amid tightened security measures at airports worldwide.
The Japanese unit of Germany's Triumph group -- the world's largest lingerie maker -- will sell 500 of the so-called Frequent Flyers' Bras over the Internet on Dec. 6 at www.triumphjapan.com
Instead of metal wires and hooks, the new bra incorporates resinous wires and nonmagnetic metal hooks that do not trigger metal detectors. This will help assure female flight attendants and frequent airline travelers of comfortable, safe flights and help them avoid embarrassment, the company said.
In addition, the products should be welcomed by airport authorities as security personnel take "considerable labor and time to identify what is triggering the metal detectors, resulting in slow immigration and boarding procedures," the Tokyo-based firm said.
The bra will be available in white, orange and blue. It will be sold in a set with panties for 3,800 yen.
