Compiled from wire reports NEC Corp. said Tuesday it will scale back the hours of all 9,000 white-collar workers employed in its domestic semiconductor division.
The employees will work one day less per month from October to December, marking the first time since 1974 that NEC has cut back the working hours for white-collar employees, company officials said. The measure will be implemented beginning today.
NEC will pay the workers in question 80 percent of their normal wages for the days on which they are idle. The employees are involved in the development, design and sale of semiconductors, according to the officials.
