Motorcycle maker Yamaha Motor Co. said Friday that it will give full management independence to sales unit Yamaha Motor Marketing Japan Co. in April.

Yamaha Motor said it also plans by then to put its five other group sales firms under Yamaha Motor Marketing's control.

Yamaha Motor Marketing, which deals mainly with motorcycles and motorboats, will try to boost sales by expanding its product line to include non-Yamaha goods and branching into information technology, Yamaha Motor said.

Separately, Yamaha Motor said it will dissolve Yamaha Gamagori Works Co. at the end of the current business year. The company is a subsidiary based in Gamagori, Aichi Prefecture, that makes midsize and large pleasure boats.

The decision was made due to an extended drop in the market for motorboats, it said.

Production of midsize boats will be transferred to another group firm, while that of large boats may be commissioned to a company outside its group, Yamaha Motor said.
