East Japan Railway Co. said Wednesday it plans to set up English-language information centers at its Ueno and Shinjuku stations in Tokyo and at Omiya Station in Saitama Prefecture.
The centers, to be established by the end of the year, will feature English-speaking guides, and railway maps and other information in English, Korean and Chinese.
JR East currently operates English information centers at Tokyo Station from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and at the east exit of Shinjuku Station from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The new Shinjuku booth will be at the south exit, company officials said.
Beginning today, the firm will offer a telephone information service in Korean and Chinese from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., in addition to the current service in English. The information number is (03) 3423-0111.
