Czech Republic President Vaclav Havel has honored Yohei Sasakawa, president of the Nippon Foundation, for the foundation's involvement over the past five years in Forum 2000, foundation officials said Wednesday.
Forum 2000, an annual conference in Prague bringing together the world's significant thinkers, writers, politicians and academics to discuss global issues, was initiated by the Czech president in 1997.
The foundation, whose activities include promoting international cooperation and maritime development, is sponsoring the current meeting, the last in the annual series. Sasakawa is chairing the Prague event.
