Rescuers found two Japanese climbers and a Sherpa on Monday evening who had been stranded near the peak of Mount Manaslu, an 8,163-meter mountain in Nepal's Himalaya range, according to reports a Tokyo-based climbing group received Tuesday.
Rescuers found group leader Kazuyoshi Kondo, 59, from Suginami Ward, Tokyo; Yukito Ueno, 47, from Morioka, Iwate Prefecture; and the Sherpa, the Japan Workers Alpine Federation said.
Another climber, Isao Kuribara, 42, was confirmed dead Sunday from apraxia, the federation said earlier.
The three surviving climbers have recovered somewhat after taking water, according to the federation.
The three, along with eight rescuers, were scheduled to descend to the 5,800-meter level Tuesday and be picked up by helicopter, the federation said.
The climbers began their summit attempt Friday but gave up at about 7,500 meters due to strong winds, the federation said. They then turned back but halted their descent and bivouacked at about 7,000 meters after Kuribara became weak.
A separate three-member party belonging to the federation succeeded in reaching the summit last week, according to the federation. The three were among the eight rescuers who found the stranded climbers.
