OSAKA -- Sharp Corp. said Tuesday it will tie up with Soma Networks Inc. of the United States to develop next-generation high-speed wireless data communications systems and devices for households.
Sharp will work with the fixed-wireless company based in San Francisco to jointly develop a family of second-generation devices and launch them on the North American market in 2003, Sharp said.
The SOMAport technology enables low-cost wireless services that provide simultaneous broadband data and voice communications for homes.
Sharp plans to utilize its liquid crystal displays and other technologies to develop SOMAport-compatible home communications equipment such as personal computers and fax machines.
