Former Fuji Bank President Yoshizane Iwasa died of pneumonia at a Tokyo hospital Sunday, his family said Monday. He was 95.

Iwasa joined Fuji Bank, then called Yasuda Bank, in 1928 after graduating from the University of Tokyo and served as president between May 1963 and May 1971. During his tenure, Iwasa helped Fuji become Japan's largest bank in terms of deposits.

In 1967, Iwasa was named one of the world's 20 top executives by the U.S.-based magazine Fortune.

He held influential business posts, including the chairmanship of the former Federation of Bankers Associations of Japan, renamed the Japanese Bankers Association, and the Japan Association of Corporate Executives (Keizai Doyukai), one of Japan's leading business groups.

Fuji Bank will hold a memorial service Nov. 12 for Iwasa at the Hotel Okura in Tokyo.
