The Foreign Ministry renewed calls Friday to Japanese abroad to ensure their own safety in the wake of an FBI alert on imminent terrorist attacks.

The ministry urged Japanese to keep up-to-date, pay attention to developments concerning terrorism and stay away from possible targets. The FBI issued a warning Thursday saying, "Certain information, while not specific as to target, gives the government reason to believe that there may be additional terrorist attacks within the United States and against U.S. interests overseas over the next several days."

The FBI called on people to notify it or law enforcement authorities immediately about any unusual or suspicious activity, saying it has instructed local law enforcement authorities to be on the highest alert.
