An electronic-game show featuring around 400 new products from 53 domestic and international game software makers kicked off Friday at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture.
The largest booth at Tokyo Game Show 2001 Autumn is occupied by U.S. software giant Microsoft Corp., which has set up 150 game consoles on which people can try out the new Xbox and 20 other kinds of software games. Microsoft plans to release the Xbox on the U.S. market in November, with Japan following in February.
Sony Corp.'s popular PlayStation2 and Nintendo Co.'s GameCube, released in September, are also prominently displayed.
The show, in its 11th year, will continue until Sunday. Its sponsor, the Computer Entertainment Software Association, is expecting about 150,000 visitors.
