As the U.S. prepares to launch retaliatory strikes on those believed to be behind the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on New York and the Pentagon, the media's frustration over the tight control of information by the U.S. authorities is reportedly on the rise.
U.S. Forces Japan is also clamping down on information provided to the local media -- with similar results.
Col. Jeanette Minnich, director of public affairs for USFJ, asked members of Tokyo-based news organizations this week not to report on security-level changes at U.S. bases in Japan and on other detailed operational information.
