The Tokyo District Court on Wednesday ordered the cancellation of a 1994 permit allowing the continued construction of a 6.5-km elevated railroad in Setagaya Ward.
The ruling favors a residents' group concerned about excessive noise.
Presiding Judge Masayuki Fujiyama, however, said the ruling does not oblige Odakyu Electric Railway Co. to destroy the section already completed. The Tokyo-based railway company has obtained 98 percent of the land needed for the project and completed 70 percent of the construction.
