Solutions to conflicts, poverty and other problems in Africa must come from within, and regional cooperation is vital for success, visiting South African President Thabo Mbeki said Tuesday.
Speaking at the United Nations University in Tokyo, Mbeki introduced his New African Initiative -- a strategy to reduce poverty and place Africa on a path of sustainable growth and development.
"As Africans, we can and must pull our continent out of the situation of poverty and underdevelopment in which it is currently immersed," he said.
