Kenji Koso of the Liberal Democratic Party tendered his resignation from the Diet on Tuesday in the wake of a vote-canvassing scandal involving several top postal officials.
Sixteen people, including members of Koso's campaign team, have been arrested on suspicion of illegally canvassing votes for the former head of the Kinki Regional Bureau of Postal Services during July's House of Councilors election.
