The Self-Defense Forces will help refugees under a new law that deals solely with supporting the U.S.-led campaign against terrorism, rather than by revising the peacekeeping operation law, the ruling coalition parties agreed Tuesday.
Making a new law could enable swifter legislation than revising the existing law, which strictly limits SDF peacekeeping activities abroad, coalition officials said.
The limited scope of the new law could also help gain the opposition's understanding, they said.
