Wireless Internet Service Inc. and NTT-ME Corp. announced Tuesday they will launch what they claim is the lowest fixed-rate wireless broadband service of up to 2 megabits per seconds for a monthly charge of 1,980 yen.
The service, using a technology called wireless local loop, will start in November in the Tokyo area, the companies said.
They will set up base antennas on top of high-rise buildings, each of which can handle up to 512 users within a radius of 800 meters.
Subscribers can receive the wireless service with a fixed home antenna connected to personal computers through an Ethernet port.
The companies will begin accepting applications Monday.
