Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi is set to leave for the United States today for talks with U.S. President George W. Bush that are expected to focus on the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.
During the meeting in Washington on Tuesday, Koizumi plans to pledge his full backing for Bush's battle against the terrorists behind the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, Japanese government officials said.
The prime minister plans to explain Japan's seven-point plan on its response to the attacks announced Wednesday. The plan includes taking steps to allow Japan's Self-Defense Forces to provide logistic support to any U.S. military retaliation.
