Nisuke Ando, a law professor at Doshisha University in Kyoto, will be named today as an arbitrator of the Permanent Court of Arbitration at The Hague, the Foreign Ministry said Thursday.
Shigeo Uetake, senior vice foreign minister, is scheduled to deliver an appointment letter from Foreign Minister Makiko Tanaka to Ando today, the ministry said.
Ando will serve a six-year term.
He will join Toshijiro Nakajima, former justice of the Japanese Supreme Court, and Soji Yamamoto, professor emeritus at the University of Tokyo, as Japan's representatives at the court.
Each member country of the court is entitled to name up to four representatives. he Permanent Court of Arbitration is an international organization that offers a broad range of services aimed at resolving conflicts between states and disputes between governments and private parties.
