KDDI Corp. said Saturday that its dedicated international lines for corporate communications and international data communications lines were restored by 12:45 p.m. Saturday, 36 hours after being suspended in the wake of Tuesday's terrorist attacks on New York.

The problems affecting 235 dedicated lines for international voice, image and data transfer occurred when a generator in New York broke down at 6:37 a.m. Friday, after overheating due to the high volume of calls being placed to the United States.

The suspension affected 95 companies, including Japanese firms, but had no impact on public circuits.

KDDI had been using the generator at a facility of its subsidiary, Telehouse International Corp. of America, since the power supply was cut off following the terrorist attacks on the twin towers of the World Trade Center. The facility is located about 500 meters south of the collapsed skyscrapers.

KDDI said it borrowed a portable generator from a local power company and was able to resume the feeds and recover all lines.
