Arthur Miller, the American playwright best known for "Death of a Salesman," and Lee U Fan, a South Korean painter living in Japan, have been awarded the 13th Praemium Imperiale, along with three other foreign artists, the Japan Art Association announced Friday.
Miller was named a recipient in the theater/film category while Lee was named a laureate in painting.
The other three winners are: Marta Pan, of France, in sculpture; Jean Nouvel, also of France, in architecture; and Ornette Coleman, an American saxophonist, in music. Each will receive 15 million yen, a diploma and a medal. The awards ceremony will be Oct. 25 in Tokyo, with Prince Hitachi attending.
