Finance Minister Masajuro Shiokawa told a regular news conference Tuesday he hopes to see the yen weaken against the dollar.
He added, however, that he is not considering raising the issue of a weaker Japanese currency at a meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors from the Group of Seven major economic powers in late September in Washington.
