OSAKA -- The health ministry arrested actor and singer Issei Ishida, 26, in Osaka on Monday on suspicion of possessing 2 grams of cannabis resin.
Ishida, whose real name is Issei Hoshikawa, was found in possession of the drugs at about 10 a.m. in Chuo Ward, according to the cannabis control division at the Kinki Regional Health and Welfare Bureau of the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry.
Ishida admitted to the accusation, saying the resin belonged to him and that he has been taking the drug for some time.
Ishida, who lives in Meguro Ward, Tokyo, has been staying in Osaka to perform the lead role in the play "O-Edo Rocket" at the Shochikuza theater between Aug. 7 and Sunday.
The theater was closed Monday. The play's production company, Poripro Inc., is now considering the play's future.
Ishida, son of actor Junichi Ishida, has starred in various hit TV dramas and movies, and has released three albums.
