NAGOYA -- The American Chamber of Commerce Chubu, announced Friday that their 2001 Walkathon, held in May, raised more than 4 million yen for charity.
More than 1,500 people participated in this year's event, held May 27 in central Nagoya. This was a 15 percent increase from last year's walkathon, ACCJ Chubu official Carter Witt said.
Some 20 local charities are scheduled to receive the money, including the Japan HIV Center, Make A Wish Foundation, and the Kikoku Shijo Education Center. Some of the money has already been distributed, and ACCJ Chubu expects the remainder will be sent out by the end of next week.
The event, sponsored by both the recently opened ACCJ Chubu and the Nagoya International School, drew both individual as well as U.S. and Japanese corporate sponsors.
