OSAKA -- Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. said Friday it will launch the world's lightest portable DVD player on Sept. 1.
The machine also features a 9-inch liquid crystal display, the largest featured on a portable DVD player.
The Panasonic DVD-LA95 is the first portable DVD player that can read DVD-RAM discs.
It weighs 999 grams and includes a built-in rechargeable battery and television tuner.
It can play back a DVD-RAM disc created from either a personal computer or DVD-RAM recorder and can accommodate various types of digital entertainment software, including DVD-Video and compact discs.
Shipment for overseas markets is scheduled for the fall, Matsushita said in a release.
