Police arrested a vocational college student early Sunday after he turned himself in for assaulting a railway passenger at a Tokyo train station Saturday afternoon. The passenger later lost consciousness and died.
Yoshiyuki Miyazono, 24, of Tokyo's Nerima Ward is suspected of hitting Takeshi Sudo, 26, in the neck on the platform of Seibu Yuenchi Station on the Seibu-Yamaguchi line in Higashi-Murayama, western Tokyo, at around 4:40 p.m. Saturday. Miyazono allegedly fled the scene after the attack, police said.
Sudo, a company employee from Yokohama's Izumi Ward, died of a subarachnoid hemorrhage in a hospital at around 3 a.m. Sunday. Police said they intend to change the charge against Miyazono from assault to inflicting injury resulting in death.
