Guatemalan President Alfonso Antonio Portillo Cabrera, who will visit Japan for a week from May 15, hopes to enhance relations between the two countries, Foreign Ministry spokesman Norio Hattori said Tuesday.
After an engagement with the Emperor and Empress and talks with Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, Portillo will travel to a yet-undetermined location in western Japan for the weekend, Hattori said in a statement.
Portillo, 49, will be accompanied by his wife, Evelyn Morataya de Portillo, and 4-month-old daughter.
