The Emperor and Empress will visit Yamanashi Prefecture from May 19 to May 21 to attend a tree-planting ceremony and visit a number of places, the Imperial Household Agency said Thursday.
The Imperial couple will travel to Kofu, the prefecture's capital, on May 19 to visit the Yamanashi Prefectural Science Center. They will attend the tree-planting ceremony, to be held in the town of Sudama, the following day, the agency said.
After visiting a site renowned for supplying laminated lumber cut from Japanese larch in the town of Shirane on May 21, the couple will return to Tokyo, it said.
The Emperor and Empress last visited the prefecture in April 1999, according to the agency.
