The Emperor and the Empress visited the Government Guesthouse in Tokyo to bid farewell Thursday to Norway's King Harald V and Queen Sonja, who will leave Japan Saturday after visiting Nagasaki Prefecture.
The Norwegian royal couple, visiting Japan as state guests since Sunday, arrived in the prefecture later Thursday.
They are scheduled to lay wreaths at the hypocenter of the Aug. 9, 1945, atomic bombing of the port city today.
On Wednesday, the Emperor and Empress took the Norwegian couple on a tour of the historic seaside city of Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture, and nearby Enoshima Yacht House in Fujisawa.
Enoshima was the venue of a yachting competition during the 1964 Tokyo Olympics in which the king, then Norway's crown prince, participated and placed eighth.
