OSAKA -- Carrefour Japan Co., the Japanese unit of French retailer Carrefour, on Tuesday won approval from the Osaka Prefectural Government to open a shop in the Rinku Town business zone in the city of Izumisano, a company spokeswoman said.
Carrefour Japan plans to open the store near Kansai International Airport by December 2002, the spokeswoman said.
The prefectural government had been accepting applications from retailers to open a shop in the new Rinku Town and made its decision on Monday.
Carrefour Japan has so far opened three stores in Japan -- in Makuhari, Chiba Prefecture, in Machida, western Tokyo, and Izumi, Osaka Prefecture.
The new store in Rinku Town will be in a three-story building with a total floor space of approximately 62,000 sq. meters.
