Toshiba Corp. will stop producing cathode-ray tube television sets at the end of March and transfer all TV production, including digital models, to China, beginning in April, company officials said Monday.
Toshiba, the third-largest maker of TVs in Japan, is making the move to improve cost-efficiency amid increasingly fierce competition.
The company has struggled to fight a growing influx of cheap analog television sets made in Southeast Asia by Japanese manufacturers and expects the same scenario to emerge with digital TVs.
