The Finance Ministry said Wednesday it will start releasing contract-base securities investment data at home and abroad every week, starting in April.

The ministry currently releases the data once a month.

Ministry officials said the weekly release of the data will benefit users of the statistics.

The weekly data will be published on the fourth business day of the following week. The data for the first week of April will be out April 12.

The ministry will continue publishing monthly data.

The data show investment activities in Japanese markets of nonresident investors, who are key players in the markets, as well as residents' investment activities abroad.

The Tokyo Stock Exchange releases similar data, but the ministry's statistics cover a broader range, including such markets as Japan's over-the-counter market, the officials said.
