The Justice Ministry on Friday suspended a Fukuoka prosecutor for six months for leaking investigative information to a crime suspect's husband, Justice Minister Masahiko Komura said.

Eiju Yamashita admitted to having informing the suspect's husband, who is a Fukuoka High Court judge, of police moves.

The leak was made in December, when Yamashita was deputy head of the Fukuoka District Public Prosecutor's Office.

The ministry also decided to impose a pay cut on Takashi Watanabe, head of the Fukuoka District Prosecutor's Office and Yamashita's former boss.

Later on Friday, Yamashita, 51, who was demoted to a rank-and-file prosecutor at the Fukuoka High Public Prosecutors Office last month, and Watanabe submitted their resignations, which were immediately accepted, ministry officials said.

All prosecutors who have been reprimanded in high-profile scandals during the past few years have tendered their resignations or have been dismissed.

Also Friday, the Supreme Prosecutor's Office dropped a criminal accusation filed against Yamashita for violation of the National Public Service Law, which obligates public servants not to abuse confidentiality.

Yamashita allegedly informed the judge, Ryuichi Furukawa, 48, of police moves targeting Furukawa's wife Sonoko, 40, who is suspected of using e-mail to threaten a woman's life over a lover's triangle.

Sonoko, arrested Jan. 31, has been indicted on two charges relating to the alleged threats.
