A group of seven Japanese towel makers operating factories in China filed a petition with the government on Friday, urging it not to invoke import restriction measures against towel imports from China.
In the petition, which was submitted to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the seven towel manufacturers expressed their opposition to import curbs, saying that they would negatively affect products shipped to Japan from their factories in China.
"We, smaller companies, stake our future on our operations in China. Import curbs (by the Japanese government) would plunge our operations both in China and Japan into severe difficulty," said Toshihiro Yagi, president of Toyo Terry Co., based in Toyo, Ehime Prefecture.
