Telecom Minister Toranosuke Katayama said Friday he is ready to persuade Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. to accept a proposed bill tightening regulations on NTT aimed at promoting competition within the telecom market.
"I am willing to meet and talk with NTT President (Junichiro) Miyazu if necessary," Katayama, minister of public management, home affairs, posts and telecommunications, told a news conference.
The proposed legislation would empower the government to apply harsher regulations on core companies in the NTT group by recognizing them as "controlling enterprises" that should be subject to such rules.
