Memorial services were held Thursday morning near Nakameguro Station on the Hibiya subway line in Tokyo's Meguro Ward to mark the first anniversary of a train derailment and collision that claimed five lives and left 64 passengers injured.
The incident occurred when the last car of a subway train derailed on a curve and sideswiped another commuter train running in the opposite direction on a parallel track at 9:01 a.m.
But the services, which were organized by the carrier, Teito Rapid Transit Authority, were attended by relatives of only two of the deceased. A cenotaph that Teito unveiled at the accident site the same day was engraved with the names of the two victims whose relatives decided to participate.
