Mazda Motor Corp., an affiliate of Ford Motor Co., plans to transfer part of its production for the Familia and Demio models to a Ford plant in Spain in 2003, Mazda officials said Monday.

Mazda will arrange for the Ford factory in Valencia, the eastern Spanish province facing the Mediterranean Sea, to manufacture a combined 100,000 of both cars a year, the officials said.

The automaker envisions starting Demio production in early 2003 and production of the five-door version of the Familia sedan in late 2003, they said.

Mazda exports some 200,000 vehicles to Europe a year.
