Five or six masked men entered the Tokyo home of a major telephone dating club operator and stole around 105 million yen in cash and 30 million yen in jewelry from three safes, police said Wednesday.
The robbery occurred at around 10 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Keiichi Morishita, 50, in Tokyo's Nakano Ward. Morishita has 90 telephone dating facilities across the country.
Police said the burglars bound with tape the three Morishita children -- aged between 2 and 12 -- who were home when the burglars broke in.
Morishita's wife returned home with her 11-year-old daughter while the robbery was taking place and they too were bound by the burglars. There were no injuries.
Police said the stolen money was the payroll for about 500 employees at Morishita's real-estate firm and dating clubs. Payday was Wednesday.
The safes were forced open with a bar, police said, adding that they were located on the first and second floor of the dwelling. Investigators suspect the robbers were familiar with Morishita's business.
Morishita owns the telephone dating club known as Rin Rin House.
