Prosecutors plan to summon former Liberal Democratic Party heavyweight Masakuni Murakami for questioning as early as today on suspicion that he received bribes from scandal-tainted industrial mutual-aid organization KSD, investigation sources said Tuesday.
Murakami, who resigned from the LDP last week and from the Upper House on Monday, is scheduled to testify before the chamber's Budget Committee as a sworn witness concerning his questionable ties with KSD.
Prosecutors may summon Murakami for questioning once his Diet testimony is over, the sources said.
